tried to give a little more fuel to my passat but the idle screw isn't working...
the pump was stock,never touched but the idle wont go down...
same thing happened to my fathers 1.9d golf...
whats going on?
also is there a way to adjust the linkage on a vnt turbo without putting it to car?
was thinking on a air compressor blowing air and adjust it that way...
on a vnt20 in a 1.9td what is the best way to setup the vanes?motion vs boost?

turn the max fuel screw down, if you turn it up too much, the max fuel screw becomes your idle adjustment also.
and for the vanes on the VNT, you want the vanes closed at idle, and as soon as the turbo starts boosting, you want the vanes to start opening. they should be fully open by about 10 psi. and you cant really adjust a turbo with compressed air, there wont be enough air moving through the turbo to spool it, just enough to make it spin slowly.

regarding the pump the settings were stock...
and the idle screw was not working...
right now the fuel screw is stock because i cant get the idle down....same thing happened on 1.9d pump...
the compressed air was to be blown on the WG to move the vanes, not through the turbo

a VNT doesnt have a wastegate. thats why its a VNT, to get rid of a wastegate. that canister is vacuum operated dude.
and what do you mean it wont idle down, like it never idles?
or you give it gas and it hangs at a higher rpm instead of returning to idle.
your discriptions are pretty vauge, tell me more about your problems and maybe i can help you.

i modded my gtd pump and i could give it a lot of fuel and back out the idle on that screw,on these pumps it wont do squat...
regarding the turbo...
the canister is vacuum operated yes,but i will convert it to work with boost like everybody does.
said that is it possible to give it air by a air compressor and set the vanes opening vs boost?
and how would i limit the boost?
on my gtd with k24 i shut closed the wg and controlled the max boost with fuel but on vnt i think the boost levels will be too high...

That's because that isn't the idle screw. The idle screw is the rod that comes up from the cold start advance. That rotates and adjusts the idle. If you have AC with the vacuum pod then I think it is the screw with the 10mm lock nut closest to the injection lines, but I'm not sure

i adjusted the idle on my 1.6 on that screw(the stop for the lever) as on many other pump i have tweeked...
i dont have a.c.

the one on the fromt of the pump can be removed.
i backed that one and didnt do anything... ???

Number 8 is the correct screw.
The 1.6 and 1.9 pumps are different pumps.

are there so much difference in 1.6 and 1.9 pumps? ???
if i play with screw nš8 wont the cold start advance be deactivated?

Ooops, of course it's #7, then #8 and the other right next to it if you need to lower it more.
The cold start lever only affects idle speed, not timing so it's safe to back them out. I had to back out #8 completely on my tweaked Passat.

that udle system on the AAZ pump looks like its pretty much the same as the pump on my 2.0, except my pump has another delivery valve on the back.

i remember that when i messed with screw number 8 on the gtd i could pull the cold start lever and it wont do nothing...
and why i could lower the idle on the stop screw on the gtd?could the lever be on a bad position?

the idle screws on AAZ pumps and GTD pumps are not the same. they adjust differently, go back a few posts and read, you will see what they mean.
they are on the same side of the pump, but not in the same location, and definitely dont adjust the same.

Later model 1.6 pumps also have those extra adjustments. They are the cream of the cream in the high performance pump tuning world
