I fancy building a monster spec 1Y with a pump to match. The 1Y is a 1.9D to which a turbo will be added, I'm thinking VNT but that's another topic! I've looked and looked but I can't seem to find the definitive topic which shows what a decent, low budget self built pump is. From my research I think the following would be good:
20mm shaft base pump (which?)
11mm/12mm Head and springs
1Y cam plate
Peugeot LDA setup??
Governor Mod
Advance mod
Are the foundations there? I dont know what other internals would be best or even what else could be changed for the better.
I've got acess to almost any pump to make this work so i might as well make the most as i doubt i'll build another IDI after this one!

talk to 53willys or Zukgod or giles or one of those guys that build there own 11mm hot pumps. dillenger1 built a pretty bad ass 10mm pump out of some peugeot pump parts. why dont you just use a 1.6 turbo pump, its already setup pretty close to what you want. put the 11mm pump in there, shim up the governor. why would you want to remove it? its not going to turn 7000 rpms. if you shim it a quarter inch, the governor works at about 20% what it should be working. it simply cant cut enough fuel with it shimmed up.
you should listen to the guys on here, they have lots and lots of good info. everyone on here says the 1.6 turbo pump has a good cam plate and seems lime most people stay away from stock 1.9 parts. whats so much better about a peugeot LDA from a vw unit? and are you going for used parts here? cause if you are going for new, i was going to order a volvo penta 11 or 12mm pump. they are capable of almost 300 bar too! and fairly cheap.

Ahh, I did'nt know that about the govener, I'm still learning. I just saw a few posts saying to remove it and thought that was the way to go, Although 7000RPM sounds good!! I think i could still be pulling at 6k with the turbo and other work i'm planning!
The reason i posted this topic is to find out all the info i'd never find if i looked. I've seen people have used the peugeot LDA setup as there are loads of nice parts inside, what, I dont know! lol I do know that the PUG's have a higher RPM limit which might mean better internals (the guy in the link below mentions some mods to the 'top' of the pump)
I was trying to make up a good pump from the parts i can get cheap or free, if i'm better starting with a 1.6td pump I'll have to buy one!

dude, these engines just dont really pull much past 5500 or so. i have good boost and fuel at 5500, but it just makes alot of noise really, i usually shift right about 5000, when it starts falling on its face. i used to be right where you were, thought making a super spinner diesel sounded awesome, but its just not feasible. diesel doesnt burn fast enough and our pumps cant pump it fast enough. you can take a 100% completely stock engine, port the head, put a good intake, a good exhaust, and a good turbo on there with an intercooler, you can make beautiful power. there is nothing special about my 1.5, and it will burn the tires off in 2nd gear for over 100 feet all posi'd up. first time i ever did that i was so impressed that i just couldnt let out, i had to give her all i had, and it finally caught traction at about 30 mph.

If your engine doesnīt work above 5000rpm, that doesnīt mean any engine will not work. My 1,7 revīd to 5800 and then power dropped. And there is engines that revīs higher than that. Even 7000, with regular pump diesel.
Do you have dyno sheet from your 1,5?

no, my engine will turn ALOT more than 5500 rpms. it still pulls after 5500, just not hard like it pulls before 5500. i bet my car damn near turns 7k. it turns soo many rpms, that the engine will get quieter.
and who can afford to get there car dyno'd anymore? not me. and besides, the dyno is 100 miles away. i cant drive! (legally)

I build my daily car 1.9td orginal pump+11mm bosh head,modified governor,nothing super special only normal parts and itīs revs up to + 6000rpm raising power curve.That rpm needs very good sylinder head,exhaust,intake..
I think all diesel engines revs that much but only few do serioius power that high rpmīs
My daily vento power is about 190hp,only :-[

Are there any certain Bosch heads to choose over other ones? or will any do?
I'll be building the engine to suit!

I'm glad you mentioned something about delivery valves. All you ever hear about is the cam plate lift, the injector breaking pressures and the size of the pump. I've alwys wanted to know more about the delivery valves themselves and how they fit into the picture, obviouly they have to open before the injectors do but you never hear if or what should be done with them for increased power or how it affects mileage, heat and ect.

Very little.
The DV is basically there to hold residual line pressure between the pump and injector.
In our applications using a larger DV isn't going to get much if anything as far as performance goes.
I've tried larger DV's when I used my 11mm head and didn't notice crap. No I didn't dyno it and wouldn't either knowing what it's purpose really is.
Cummins owners (myself included) have been using larger DV's for a while. Usually end up with crappy idle. In most cases that doesn't matter as it's a pulling truck and not a daily driver.

What pump is a good base for this pump? obviousy a 20mm shaft is required!
Any negatives to me building a 12mm Pump? I want the revs!

good luck finding a sprocket for a 20mm shaft that will track right!
volvo pentas have a 17mm shaft with a 12mm pump head... just a thought.
and they use basically the same pump as we have on our VW's

are we saying a 20mm shaft aint needed on a td? TDI sprockets would fit?

20mm shaft is nice if you are running a 14mm head. its my understanding that anything under a 12mm head will do fine on a 17mm shaft.
