Title: Temporaily running a TD pump on my NA?? is it allowed?
Post by: riceatingrabbit on August 13, 2009, 04:32:37 pm
My NA pump started leaking last week. It made the car hard to start in the mornings ( air in the system)  and got progressively worst until this morning I couldn't get it to start at all.. I killed my 800cca battery...

anyways, as I see it now I am doing a pump swap this weekend one way or another.. I have a couple of NA pumps laying around that I could put on it.

but..

I am planning on going turbo as soon as I can get my turbo rebuilt..

I am also making a trip up to the heaven of all VW diesel parts warehouses to pick up my TD geared 5 spd this weekend..

This place can also sell me a low mileage, guaranteed TD pump for $150

so...

The question is, can I run the TD pump on my car without the turbo for a while? I figure as long as theres no boost going to the LDA the pump should act like an NA pump anyways right?

am I over looking anything?

and go ahead and put a timing cover on it when you're finished ;)

thats an old pic in the other thread btw ;)

the engine was eating timing belts due to a tweaked IP bracket... I had it off to keep an eye on the belt..

I'd get that pump for that price even if you didn't need it.  I really like those wheels, what size and kind are they and about what do they cost.  I'm gonna need some new tires before long and I might spring for some better looking wheels when I do.  I really like that syle.

I ended up resealing the pump that was on the car... so far so good!!

I did get the TD pump though... But im saving it for when I get the rest of the TD stuff together..

as far as the wheels.. they are konig remembers... 15x7... running 195/50s

not sure what they cost new, i got them as part of a trade a while back. .

Those are konig rewinds, remembers are knockoff bbs mesh style. If you want the real wheels they are compomotive minilites, you can get them in 10x13  ;D with a range of offsets.

How does the little beast ride and how hard is it to turn the wheel at low speeds with them as compared to the stock ones?

if you have trouble driving a rabbit with wide tires, you should not be driving. i had 205/40/ZR17's on my rabbit before, and it would steer just fine, even turning around and going under 2mph. ive had enough *** without power steering that im used to difficult steering vehicles. my rabbit steers almost as easy as if it did have power steering. no need for it, just extra weight.

Riceatingrabbit,

Recently discovered that my IP on on my AAZ 1.9 TD is an ecopump with no LDA pin.  It works great and was recently resealed but I have a brand new rover pin I would love to install.  It seems the best option is to change the 1.9 TD IP to a 1.6 TD IP although I am open to other suggestions.  Anyway, interested in the source for 1.6 TD pumps that you mention--I am assuming these are not eco-pumps but have a boost pin??.  The price sounds right.

Thanks for any suggestions or advice.
