just a quick question anyone on here know where i can get or if someone on here fabricates tube headersfor the 1.6 TD???
-
basically any older 8v vw exhaust manifold fits, not just specific 1.6td parts. so if you can find yourself a turbo header off of a older GTI or ABA engine, it will bolt right up.
-
lol i know i can but i need somthing externallly wastegated, and one from a an audi with the wastegate facing upwards will not work as I am also using an intake from a 1.8 gasser.
-
here is one I have been home building.....I am running mine with a 40mm External gate...But I wanted mine to point up for easy turbo access
I still gotta make two more notches for the two center runners..but it's getting close..(moving to a new house really slows progress ;))

Drool DROOL DROOL!!!Drrroooooollll!
you need a bigger intake manifold Willy!
-
what steel did you use for the exhaust flange looks to be at least 1/4 inch lol, yeah that looks awesome, gonna flow a helluva lot better than stock :)
-
thanks Eddy...I got a new intake in the works..
the flange on it is 1/2"
-
now if i was going to fab up my own header, should i use the 1/2 steel plate for the flange or 1/4 inch plate??? I know the 1/2" will definantly hold up to alot of abuse, but 1/4" is fairly beefy as well.
-
for a turbo manifold I would go 1/2" myself...if your gonna build it you might as well build it right.
-
I don't think 1/4" is thick enough for exhaust flanges near the head/turbo. I'd go with at least 3/8".
Andrew
yeah for something that will heat cycle over and over at high temps I would want something thick!
-
lol yeah 1/2" is what i thought lol
-
1/2" or 5/8" for the flange, port match for size to the turbo, then open up the exhaust to at least 2.75".
Are you TIGging that or going with a MIG or ARC?
