Title: crack in block?
Post by: vwjones on August 11, 2009, 03:21:26 pm: i have an mk1 with an oil drip and it seems to be coming from the bolt hole that holds the passenger side motor mount. does the bolt go thru to the enginge? doesn't sound possible to me. i didn't torque it down like an idiot and i'm sure I didn't crack it. any ideas?

Post by: maxfax on August 11, 2009, 11:46:54 pm: I just examined my squekay clean block I got back from the machie shop today ;D.. If you cracked one of those bolt holes you'd be leaking water before oil.. Probably a cam seal like Rabbit on Roids mentioned...

Yeah, there's water on the other side of those bolts... and the head's oil pressure passage is more than half way to the over side of the block.
