hello
just bought a 1.9td passat 35i due to my golf gtd was totaled...
this aaz pump has electrical stuff that i dont want to deal with...
i have a spare damaged 1.6gtd pump, could i swap the lda top and just delete the electrical stuff?
or is not that simple?
just want to tune this pump the way i had in the golf and keep it simple...
-
If you can post some pictures I think that would be really helpful... there were many different configurations of electric dohickies on AAZ pumps in different parts of the world as the pump design evolved towards the TDI version, some of which can be safely removed and some of which need to hang around.
-
tomorrow will snap some.
it also have egr, will ditch that too ::)

here they go:

Cant just swap pump tops?this pump looks nice and clean, shame to ditch that...
-
Okay please explain what this pump is and what parts need to make it suitable on a TDI.
Thanks
-
I have similar to this one but with a domed top with pressure line. But it has electric lines on it too. Is the electric needed(other than solenoid ofcourse)?
-
Yes, you could, but you'd need to pull the extra pin that is present in the non-lda pumps.
Andrew
what pin?

there is a fuel limiting pin in the side of the pump that only lets it deliver so much fuel. you need to grind it off, or just drill the outisde and walk it out with vise grips. its hardened steel by the way, so you will need to grind it, not cut it.

that electronic switch just sends a signal to open or close the EGR vacuum valve...
swap it all ;)
or just swap the LDA pin!

yes, i know what it is but i didn't knew if i could securely remove it without any bugs...electronic stuff kinda scares me....
tonight i am going to open the lid(i didn't have the tools to remove the screws) and see what is going on inside...
-
well then, just take it apart! no bugs I assure you...
post some pics here to of the open LDA case.
-
yesterday took a look at it...
nothing,zero,nada...
empty as a shell...
does anyone have a pic were it shows what i need to remove in order to put the lda top working?
-
I just ran into this myself... got a call from Giles: "Your 'LDA' is empty. The pump needs a real LDA and a different camplate to be of any use as a performance pump." That'll add to the bill, you can bet... oh well.
AAZ pumps are not kosher. :(
-
diferent camplate?
-
AAZ pumps are not kosher. :(
Just to be clear... VW used many different versions of Bosch pumps on the AAZ engine... only one of which is the "eco" version that has no LDA and a small cam plate. ;)
-
Turns out I like you and Jerry, have the same eco/non LDA pump. When I first saw this thread, I was like hey that looks just like my pump, and when I saw Andrew's reply I was like string of expletives that will not be repeated for the sake of this forum. However also like Jerry, my pump is in the hands of a man named Giles, yes it is pricey, but a good solution to this problem. ;D
at least we are not alone, misery loves company right? eco pump fail :(
Good luck
-
My incentive for posting certainly wasn't in order to create strings of expletives, but the fake pump's flat LDA cover is a dead giveaway.
is the smaller cam plate a big thing?
is it smaller then 1.6?
if i could i would like to keep and tune this pump as it has less miles than the 1.6 gtd one...
-
so.., on an aaz pump with the 'straight gauge' LDA does one need to replace the small pin that rides on the 'cone' as well when doing the diaphram swap, or is it a simple exchange (except for the previously mentioned ...fulcrum for part of the control collar lever assembly..and i'm guessing the starwheel?
-
can you show me a pic of this?
and remove the rod that the control collar rides against.
-
(http://etc.gnarlodious.com/Vanagon/Bosch_Pump/84.jpg)
It is the longer metal rod poking down from the top of the picture and aimed directly at the black governor shaft.
thanks
it doesnt look to do nothing...whats is function in there?
-
the fuel collar lever hits it and limits fuel. if you take that black flat piece sticking up directly behind the governor, and push it towards the front of the pump, it will hit that pin, and limit the fuel. you need to get rid of the pin or you basically have a n/a pump.
-
is it possible to do that with the pump on place?
-
It won't work too well if you don't swap the advance system and regulator. from your old pump.
-
i backed my pin out till it was flush with the inside of the pump and epoxied it around the outside. doesnt leak.
-
why don't you just swap the old pump to this engine?
the Bosch seal kit costs ~13€ ;)
-
if i could do the trick with this and with the parts of a damaged 1.6 i have i could sell the good gtd pump i have...
also, this pump looks mint and has low km so respecting to wear wins by far the gtd one...
-
just for kicks, my pump doesnt have the number 4 connector shown in the "make 1.9 faster" topic...
