The plastic reverse lockout piece that keeps the shifter from going into reverse unless depressed, on my MKII Golf broke into pieces and I bought a new one. It is attached with two rivets that I bought with it. They aren't normal pop rivets. Anyone have any removal and installation suggestions? ???

You just got the button? I didn't know they came that way! lol why not get a new handle all together? lol not a clue buddy sorry :(
free bump though lol

Nope, I'm talking about the part that attaches to the car itself, not the part on the shifter. It is attached with two sorta rivet looking things :o
-
Yeah, it's riveted in. I generally drill out the old rivets, remove the old part, and then use sheet-metal screws to attach the new one (don't own a rivet gun).
You could probably lop 'em off with a cold chisel.... in this case you're not worried about preserving the old plastic part. ;)

ha! My bad.. lol thought you meant the shifter..... im an idiot lol!

mines broken too... i've learnt to live with it. i like living on the edge ::) :D

The lockout piece itself was over $20 at the dealership, must have cost $0.25 to make :(
The rivets aren't the ones with the pin in the middle, I must have to find a way to crimp them ???

Can you just use a pop rivet instead of what you have, or just use the sheetmetal screws as previously mentioned, screws probably easier anyway.
