So does anyone know how to, or have a link to a good write-up with pictures on how to wire in a W terminal to an alternator without one? Thanks alot!

by reading your post, i'm assuming that you don't have the w terminal on your alternator, this post should help its in the FAQ :P

I don't think I've actually seen a pictoral how-to... will have to do one up some day with a junk alternator... but the schematic looks like this:

Tap into a field coil wire that runs to a diode bridge and bob's your uncle.

Ok thanks, I'll probably be opening up my junk alternator to attempt this sometime this/next week, and I'll be posting pictures along the way, probably asking for some guidance. Thanks alot!

Yup, if you can post a clear picture when you get the alternator apart we can photoshop where to solder on the W terminal for ya.

Here are some pics:
remove the plastic cover off the back of the alternator and pick one of the clamping points.

As luck would have it I just stumbled across this writeup for the MK1 alternator... they are all pretty much the same though:

Pretty good writeup!

you can also do this with most of the remy delco alternators running from the 87 to mid 93. So if you want a 105 amp alternator on the cheap....
