Title: IP pump Timing
Post by: topless96 on July 22, 2009, 03:44:35 am
Anyone have a link to setting the timing up on a 1.6 td? I am looking for one with photos so i can see as well as read the procedure. Tried some searching but did not find what I was looking for.

Vinces directions are GREAT.
I just did my head gasket and timing belt and found it a breeze to do the timing - though I profess to being a bit nervous doing the timing belt thing in a diesel (I've done a bunch of gascar timing belts - but they all just have to "line up the marks")
I must say I'd wished I did a dry run BEFORE I took the car apart so I could know what it was before disassembly but its all back and it runs as well as it did before (uh, the head gasket was leaking oil so it was not replaced due to compression leakage)

Good luck with the job

Hi Anto... there should be no broken links as the entire site is ISP-hosted... so if you're seeing missing pictures I'd love to sic my ISP on the problem!!

Screen capture would be best, since everything looks fine when I view it,  so won't be able to replicate your experience!!

The single most important thing to do is to turn it over with a socket on the crankshaft about 4 turns to make sure nothing is going to hit anywhere and make sure to take the ratchet off afterwards.  This will also tell you if you forgot to take the cam lock or the pump pin out also, it happens all the time.

Or just use the drivers side tire. Added benefit is that you can see the timing mark in the transmission and the dial indicator from there and there's no worries about leaving potentially destructive tools attached to your engine.
