Title: Will 1.7 gas motor mounts bolt onto the 1.6TD block?
Post by: Omni1.6TD on July 18, 2009, 10:57:03 pm
I want to make a 1.6TD Omni.  Will the 1.7 gas mounts bolt onto a 1.6 block?  If they do then the swap will be easy.  Someone must know if the blocks share similar bolt patters for the mounts.

Let me know asap before I go through the grief of locating the proper 1.7 omni mounts.

Thanks

They should bolt on there, however you'd need somthing special for the passenger side mount as the IP bracket is part of that mount..   Been a while since I been under the hood of an Omlette, how different are the mounts from a MK1 VW?? You could probably rather easily fabricate the mount you need using one from a VW and the 1.7 Omni...

Keep us posted if you decide to go ahead on this build..   Been contemplating somthing like this myself..   Omni bodes are much easier to come by around here..

Does anybody else know if the 1.7 gas mounts will bolt to a 1.6td block?

On the block itself there is only the one mount, the passenger one and what maxfax said is correct. I guess you could consider the front one part of the block.. and yes it is the same

Bascially what you need to do is cut the part boxed in red off the original bracket that attaches to the 1.7 out of the omni, and attach that to the injection pump bracket on the VW..  If you're engine is from a MK1 VW you'll need to whack the mount off the IP bracket..  THe MK2's mounted differently so all you shoudl have to do is weld it to the IP bracket..
