I just got this from VW Canada,

Dear Catlin,

Thank you for visiting the Volkswagen website. Your comments regardingthe GTD are greatly appreciated.

We assure you, we investigate all engines for their use and demand inthe North American region. However, at this time, there are no plans tooffer the GTD model in the United States or Canada.  The 2010 Golf VI will feature an optional 2.0 TDI clean diesel engine, which will produce 140-horsepower at 4000 rpm and an impressive 236lbs.-ft. of torque between 1750 and 2500 rpm, bringing a no compromisesalternative fuel driving experience to the all new Golf.

Please feel free to keep in touch with us for future updates. Thanks again for visiting vw.com!

I wouldn't mind the new Polo TDI. 3.8l/100km! I have no idea why there aren't more (any?) small displacement diesels in north america.

As hyundai canada told me...there is no market for diesels in north america, the Acura TSX was supose to have a diesel option but they will not launch it because the market wants gas automatics

This is just shear stupidity! Not offering these cars to the North American market is crazy talk! As I drive my 1986 Golf Diesel throughout the country side (Mainly Indiana) I have several ppl ask me about it and the fuel economy. They cannot believe that this old diesel car gets close to 50 MPG. I myself and thousands of others would buy the GTD and the Polo if offered in North America!!!

North America is one of the worlds leading consumer of oil, if auto markers bring in more fuel efficience cars they will loose billions. I think its all a big scam. Why did the vw tdi go from 60mpg to 45mpg?
