Title: Sticky gears on cold starts
Post by: chetan on July 03, 2009, 05:46:18 am
Hi there,

I have a 2002 Jetta TDI (1,9ltr). Last year I replace my clutch as well as flywheel. The mileage on my car is 223,000km. Now this year, my gears seem to be an issue.  When i start my car in the morning, my gears are difficult to change between Reverse ad 2nd Gear.

However, when the car is warmed up, i don't have that issue.

What could be the problem?

Thanks

Chetan

You ever change the Gear Oil in that beast?

Hi there,

Yes I did change it. And still i'm having this issue.  The gears are kinda sticky and does not go into and out of gear. This happens for  Reverse, 1st and 2nd.

What grade of oil needs to be in put in?

Have you checked to see if the shift linkage is worn out? You should be able to grab it in the engine bay and wiggle it to check for play

Hang on, if it only happens cold then it's not the linkage. Sorry. You probably have the wrong gear oil in it.

Thanks. My Mech got the oil from a VW dealer.  What gear oil you recommend?
