Title: pump only knows full throttle
Post by: 54321chris on June 26, 2009, 08:33:06 pm
Finally, after weeks of trying to get my newly acquired GTD engine to start up in my 85 Jetta, it finally started up and made some smoke!  WOO HOO

Problem is, as soon as it starts, it goes full throttle and I have to turn it back off.  Is there something I can do to the pump to fix it, or do I just need another one?

If it was sitting for quite a while before you got it then the pump is most likely stuck in "starting fuel mode" which is actually more then full throttle. You can try letting the pump soak with ATF in it, but IMO you'll be lucky to get it working without getting it overhauled. When it is sitting full of ATF you should spin it over a lot

Hopefully Andrew's suggestion works.
