i recently swapped the engine out of an '86 diesel Jetta into my '82 Jetta, but the exhaust manifold..outport for lack of a better word...is moved about 2 inches over to the drivers side so the downpipe won't connect (i only spent 3 hours trying) the current one goes over at an angle so what i'm wondering is if i can just have a muffler shop make me one that's just a straight 90 degrees without the angle and slap that i there. ideas? thoughts? previous experiences?

Maybe an exhaust mani from any mk1 jetta/rabbit would fit right.
I'm not real familiar with mk2's so I don't know if they're different or not, sounds like it must be.

If it's non turbo just put your mk1 exhaust manifold on there and you will be golden.

any way to do it with out pulling both manifolds off? i think to get the other one off i'll need a cutting torch...

It's easiest to take the intake off to get to the exhaust. It's 6 6mm allen head bolts. If you strip one, hammer a T45 into it and it'll come out

I actualy had an intake manifold come completely off the head one time one the way home from work about 3 engines ago :-[ I kept hearing this little tinkling sound like a bolt sounds when it falls out driving and it was the intake bolts falling out one at a time and I didn't have the bottom support bracket on either :o Can you think of another type of engine that the intake manifold can completely come off of and keep running fine ??? That's one of the reasons why I like these little things so much ;D
