Title: Oh help VW Gods!!

So my new Wolfsburgs got the 2 VW curses, 1 of them is its an Auto, and the other is its Gas. Well one of the things I want to change is the automatic part of it, I located the Transmission Control Unit and followed the cables back to the transmission, nothing of it goes to the cars ECU that i can see. If I converte the car to a 5 speed, I have everything I need to do it. Will I need to change my cars ECU??? I know this is a diesel forum but the vortex i find is kinna useless for this kind of stuff.

What year is it?


If it's pre 95 or OBD1 I dont think you will have a problem.

i think its only the vw 4 speed auto's that have the electronic crap.

Its à 98, and the local shop told me to remove the tcu, and they will reprogram the ecu for 30 bucks to run the standard tranny

by the end of it, there will be diesel parts in my gasser lol, diesel exhaust manifold and turbo, diesel ATH transmission, lol I juts need to get the smell of diesel and i'll be all set, ;D
