Title: Which way to retard ?

And don't tell me to stop sniffing magic-markers. I want to lower my timing. Now that it's getting hot out i seem to have too much marbling . I set the timing at 1.00mm when i put the modified pump [10 mm head governor and timing advance mods] on the  1.9 na in my vanagon last fall. Now i want to lower it a little and i know i can just touch it tad to change it to about .95-90 mm, but i don't remember which way to move it. Is it away from the motor to retard?

Thanks Andrew. It's sunday and my brain has been turned off as far as car stuff is concerned. Can't go risking blowing up my brain or engine.
