I have a golf 2 GTD. I was looking at my intercooler trying to figure out how the airflow works on it. From what I can tell, it seems to absorb a lot of heat from the radiator and doesnt get cooled all that well. Is it worth a toss or what? Would it be worth putting a fan on it? Im just curious really. Also, is it a big deal if quite a few of the fins are bent down?
Ive never had a car with an intercooler before, so Im just learning here, as Im sure you can appreciate. Any info you can provide would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

It would be better to relocate the IC to somewhere where it can receive better, unimpeded airflow.(ie: infront of the rad) The only downside to this is fabbing up the piping for it.

Would there be a noticable performance and/or economy gain by doing this?

the GTD cooler works on the pressure differential principle, the engine bay is exhausted under the car when its moving, and in turn air needs to replace the exhausted air - thats how air gets pulled into the cooler - and then theres also some pressure coming from the grille

a fan would be a great idea. make it thermostatically controlled though. rainbow electronics makes a real nice one that will work from 0C to 100C. a real good way to eliminate heat soak ;)
