I looked at the wiring diagram in my bentley manual and it doesn't show a upshift relay. Are you sure that's what the relay you have is for? I have a box full of relays, if you can give me the connection numbers I can send you one.

i'm looking right at my bentley. page 146.
says location #1 is upshift light control.

Ok I see that, I don't have an 82 to 84 car to look at to pull the relay. I don't have any relays with numbered connections as shown in the wiring diagrams, do you have the relay you want to replace? If you can post a pic of the connectors I may have a match.

I believe the upshift indicator is just a switch on the IP that is activated by the lever on the pump, I do not think there would be a requirement for a relay.

Some models of rabbits have a switch on the transmission that tells the upshift control when you are in top gear so that light doesn't come on. I would imagine that that system requires the relay.

Yup, the control unit monitors engine RPM, throttle position, and gear selection.

OP I''m surprised you're having a problem finding one... everyone I know pitched theirs the second they bought the car.   Oh, maybe that's why.   :)

I don't mean to pick on the OP but this is why I insist on manual transmissions in my vehicles. This is how I like it:

I decide what gear is appropriate. Car obeys! Car does not question my decision or give me lip about it.

I wonder if I can find the relay in my 85 golf. The upshift bulb was removed, I think.

I would guess it is more of the original appeal she is going for and maybe she will take it to shows. If you have seen pics that car is amazing. That or when I was new to diesels it took me about a year to realize that you can't blow one of these up by over reving, well maybe unless you held it to the floor in N for several minutes.

Sorry I don't have one. I haven't checked the MISC. parts box in the barn though, that was from my last rabbit and it has a little of everything.

well maybe unless you held it to the floor in N for several minutes.

With an unmodified pump the engine should be just fine.

all I got is a 175 919 433 YLA ... I have no idea what it is for, probably the buzzer if it isn't the one you need as those are the only 2 I usually remove. Let me know if it is close enough to the 175 919 092 F that you needed.
