Title: Ultimate AAZ intake
Post by: stewardc on June 09, 2009, 07:07:00 am
I have a modified AAZ with a 1.6 TD intake and exhaust and a T3. I want to replace the 1.6 intake with a better flowing unit. What is the best-flowing D-port intake manifold that will bolt on the AAZ?

I've been seeing PD 130 and PD 150 intakes that look like they're a direct bolton. Is this true???

Yes, I'm pretty sure those manifolds will bolt right on.

Because the design is worse than a tdi one, or something to that effect?

I'm really underwhelmed with the various stock TD intake manifolds.

yea the 1.6 & 1.9 aaz intakes bias the center two cylinders.  the PD intakes, while still not as good as a dual plenum manifolds are still wayyy better than the 1.6 or 1.9 aaz intakes.

I've only seen custom work, nothing "mass" produced

Those PD-150 type manifolds are made with the intake on either side.  Not sure which is which.  My PD-150 entered on the passenger side same as the manifold shown in the picture above.

I think the PD Passat enters on the opposite side, so that's what I need.

Was that mine that you saw copied?

Yeah basically took the stock intake off, cut it in half, welded some plate around it, got a piece of aluminum plumbing and put it on top, welded up to taste.  Works great, less filling.

If you can get one for $600 that's not a bad deal, probably 4 hours of fabrication work involved + materials.

If one of those were to fall into a box and be shipped around the world to the U.S, say in Maine, and end up on my front door, I do not think I would be very upset. I have a nice new AAZ head that would make it feel right at home.  ;)

DO you have some more photo's of this one?  How do you think this one compares to the intake based on the 1Y manifold that you built?
