Title: Wastegate question
Post by: Jettage1 on June 03, 2009, 05:46:08 pm
On my ECO K14 turbo setup, there's no BOV, but I believe there is a wastegate - down below the turbo.  It has a threaded shaft with a hex (allen key) opening on the end of it and a locknut.  If I wanted to increase boost (raise the wastegate opening pressure), am I correct that I need to turn the threaded shaft inward (clockwise) ?

If so, I assume that  when one can't turn it further in, it is essentially locked closed (max boost, no relief) Is this right?

Thanks!

Okay, not too be too clueless here, but is it actually a locknut on the threaded shaft?  I tried pretty hard to loosen it while holding the shaft with the allen wrench, but nothing.

More elbow grease?  or am I doing something wrong?  (I've learned to double-check before blindly charging ahead...)

Thanks in advance.

Is there an alternative i could use to regulate boost further?

At the minute i have the threaded shaft all the way in, 26psi max on a 1.9 turbo diesel peugeot 306.

Ive noticed what you descirbe andrew but until now i hadnt understood why it did it, i thought it was designed to do that. Previously had it around 21psi but in 5th flat out it would rise to 23psi, something it wouldnt do in 2nd/3rd for example, was i experiencing what you describe?
