I've had a pulley and bracket modified to fit my 1Z engine but for some reason the sprocket does not line up at all, What have people used when fitting these pumps before? the HP lines dont look like a good fit either, can anyone suggest anything?
Please give me back my motivation!!!

I seem to recall reading some posts a while back abot a problem like yours. The sprocket needed to be modified to bring it into alignment I think. It might have been Tintin. I know the subject has come up before. Try searching for modified IP sprocket.

Did you use a VW tdi shaft flange or make a VW tdi sprocket fit on the landrover shaft flange?

You mentioned this is a 1z tdi. I have the same tdi, and it uses a 'short nose' pump. This is the same pump pully spacing as the old 1.6 and 1.9 idi of the same year.
I used a long nose pump from a later 1.9 idi on my build. The landy pump you are using seems to have the same nose and therefore pully spacing as the later pump. A pulley from a later (97 on) idi or tdi should fit.
The adjustable tdi pulleys should work, as well as the later idi pulleys where the mounting flange is noticable shifted to one side in relation to the belt engagement surface.
The old style pulleys mount in about the center of the pulley.
If you lay the early vs later idi pulleys side by side the difference is obvious.
If this is the case changeing the pulley should fix your problem.

a difrant pully you need , auh one moded with a spacer or turn it around on the 3 bolts and use or make a spacer untill you get it in line , i think the disco 300 has the same dia and teeth as the 1.9 tdi pully but may not line up , but could be moded

I really hope i can get hold of the later pulley easy enough!! Machining the pully's face was a consideration but it would leave little or no material to bring the alignment back! my dad has a '97 IDI engine so I'll take a look at that, and also look at my Ibiza ASV pulley too to compare.
The Pulley i used was from an early 1Y 1.9D as i lost my 1Z item, they were identical as far as i can remember though!

alphawerks Have you fitted a Disco pump to a TDI?
The 300TDI sprocket i had was massive but the teeth looked the same??
Snakemaster, Could you PM me some links which show roughly what mods i can do to my pump to make it fly!
Anyone got any ideas regarding the metal injection lines?

I can only comment on what I have mocked up, nothing has run but it all lines up. I mounted both the 1Z/AHU sprocket & sprocket mount flange onto the LR300 pump. Then opened up a AAZ pump mount to clear the larger diameter nose on the LR pump. Everything bolts together nicely & the stock 1z/ahu injector lines are almost perfect, a bit of minor & gentle massaging will have them line up perfectly. The sprocket I bought from Prothe & the sprocket mount came from an injection pump rebuilder in Vancouver.

You can see the stock 1Z lines are not perfect but close. The only machining was to the AAZ pump bracket to match the larger pump nose.
Do you have your pump sprocket directly on the taper shaft??

Actually while we're on the subject & these pictures are here...
The outlets on the pump, is their length based on anything to do with the pumps operation or are they just another way for manufacturers to make these pumps fit their engines? Could I use shorter outlets instead of bending my lines? As the second pic shows they are close but the outlets are 1/2" too long. I have a old AAZ pump around with shorter outlets, is it as easy as swapping them?

Re the outlets, that is exactly what i was thinking, Hopefully so! the standard TDi Pump has shorter ones too
I've got a pulley exactly the same as the one above, it still does not line up perfectly though, it's only half better, i do have a late AAZ pulley too which is better but not enough meat to machine for the bolt holes.
maybe the bracket on the engine needs a good push to one side?? or slot the holes slightly?

Out of curiosity, what's the electronic piece on the throttle lever? Is it a TPS? I just picked one of these pumps up that has one too...

That's what I figured. Mine also has a super bizarre shut-off solenoid. Not too worried, you can only have so many combinations with 3 wires!

Ya, some of them have immobiliser integrated shutoff's... not sure what that means for you...

Reuben, Is your pump a Land rover tdi? No matter what i do i can't get the pulley to line up, not even close. i have the same pulley as you too!
Did your family mention that they got the nozzles?

All I can tell you is my set up & hope it helps... I took an AAZ pump bracket, bored it out to fit the LR pump snout, pressed on the TDI taper shaft sprocket adapter & bolted up a TDI sprocket I got from Prothe. You're not using the LR sprocket adapter by any chance?? No word from the cousins yet.

Ahh, It looks like that is my problem!! I thought about changing the adaptor but no one mentioned it before, I'll go pick one up today!
