Perhaps, but it would run on that awful (and currently rather spendy) benzine and have a bunch of spark plugs and electrics and such for igniting the nasty stuff. Torqueless fire hazards, them gassers.

A topic better suited to the present company might discuss a VW TD fitted to a shelby daytona. That huge nose could house the mother of all intercoolers... :D

I saw a one of those dodge mini-ram pickups (based on the Daytona platform) and was thinking the same thing - it would be fun to stick a TD into one of those to create a caddy with real leg room...

If power is what you're after then there is no reason to even go there. My friend just finished up this car: http://www.euronationmotorsport.com/projects_91_golfgti.html

297 whp (sometihng like 350 crank) on a 140k mile ABA bottom end, unported 16v head, race gas and a street tune with stock ignition actuated off of megasquirt. There is a lot more potential in there, but if he pulls the timing back much more I'm fairly certain it will break the engine. Throw some forged pistons, pauter rods, and real ignition at that combination and it could easily see 400 whp.
