how much more power will i get, i have been told a tdi taken from a mk3 golf (1996) can be 150 bhp as standard.

No mk3 TDI had 150 hp. Most are 90 hp, and some (quite rare) ones have 110 hp.
In case you're wondering how much these engines can be made to produce with stock parts, do check the TDI forum.

My Jetta with an AAZ engine and a hot pump is quite a bit more fun to drive than my Jetta with the standard AHU (TDI) engine.
Meaning, there's no way I'd do a TDI transplant for power reasons without first having taken the basic steps on an IDI and seen if it was enough. :wink:

I agree fully. I looked at them both and chose a hot AAZ.

even though i converted my golf from petril to diesal,i am not very good with mechanics, i can swap one engine for another but when it comes to opening them up that to technical for, but i would like my car to have some more nuts

search through this forum - there's tons of information here.
You can make your IDI produce anything between 100 and 300 hp, it's all a question of how far you're willing to go.
Getting your IDI to 120-150 hp isn't too difficult (do you have 1.6 or 1.9 BTW?) and it's much, much cheaper and more straight forward than with a TDI. Any VW IDI TD can make 100 hp with 100% stock parts - that's a nice step up from original numbers no matter how you look at it.

It is, and in the case of Eco TD, even more :)
All that's needed to break the 100 hp barrier is to adjust fuelling and boost.
On a 1.6 ECO this will require heavy smoke, but it can still be done.
On any LDA-equipped TD, over 100 hp with stock parts is pretty easy if you do the governor mod, re-shape the LDA pin a little and adjust everything to suit. On a 1.9, even 120-130 hp is very possible with stock parts, provided you massage the pump a little.

ok, if you can get 100 hp easy out of these engines, then what kinda power numbers should my setup run?
ive got the TD pump, gov mod, + lift pump, intercooler, gas intake, VNT 17, 2.5" exhaust, 3" cold air intake. but mind you all this is on my 1.5, but im thinking im over the 100 horse mark, my jetta was 100 horse and would only go 105 mph on flat ground. so far ive had this one up to 120 mph and ran out of straight stretch. it POURS a good cloud until the boost comes on, so i know i have a fair amount of fuel goin in the engine..

Try the FAQ section under how do I make my 1.6 TD or 1.9 TD a faster car. then ask more questions as that will certainly get more wheels turning.
