at the moment i have a 1.9 aaz wll a different cam make any differance to the power

Because the amount of fuel that enters the combustion chamber isn't directly affected by the opening and closing of valves, you will see little to no improvement in power with a different cam.

This is what I've gathered. I could be wayy off :P I am pretty sure you won't see a gain.

theres room for improvement.   dave - 935racer was selling performance cams, and they do help decrease EGT's by a bit, and increase airflow into the engine. i would say that its only for those who want lots of power.  he doesn't sell them anymore though.

I am going to run a AAZ cam in my 1Z mtdi as they are a better flowing cam over the 1st gen tdi's.

what cam has the best flow characteristics out of all of the OEM diesel cams? i just cant think that a stock 1.5 cam is the best cam for my turbo engine. does the 1.6td cam have a different profile?

Is it stock? If yes it is stock, then no to the power :P as Jtanguay said it will decrease EGT and increase airflow. On a stock engine the same power gains can be achieved by opening up the exhaust and the intake.

I Wonder if the 1y 1.9D has a good cam profile for a turbo lump??

it should have the 028D cam, the same as the aaz, so, yes

keep the nice intake manifold if possible, a LOT better than the aaz
don't overdo on boost as the 1.9D wasn't equipped to cope with lots of boost (stock aaz boost won't be a problem)

how about 1.5 cams? anyone know if theres room for improvement over the stock cam. i have access to 1.6 n/a and TD cams, and a 1.9 cam. or should i just stick with the stock 1.5 cam till my next build up?

what do you want? power, fuel economy or drivability?
choose two

mechanical cams have a specific profile in order to soften valve noise and prevent stress on the assembly.
hydraulic ones don't
apart than that, the timing difference is minimal, you will only want to think about that to squeeze a few extra hp on an already "hot" engine (150hp+)

I have an early 1.6 cam in my AAZ. It made some difference, but not a lot. The VW cam is close to optimum.

well, i figure its probably around 130 horse. my car flat out rips. it would smoke my 92 Jetta. i already get around 35 mpg with my foot to the floor.. so mileage isnt an issue. and its already pretty driveable. but i just wasnt sure if a 1.5 cam was best for a hopped up boosted engine. im pretty sure the 1.5 and 1.6 cams have the same profile, but i could be wrong.

I carried my 1.6td cam over to my AAZ head... i thought they were identical...

gigaz,i think 1y engine is the same as aaz.
finland guys on the forum do theyr magic on those too...
