Post by: Golf/Jetta on May 02, 2009, 10:44:52 am
is there a way of testing the Hydraulic lifters?
or the way the supposed to act/feel?
stiff? spongy? is there a spring inside?

Yup... the Bentley has the full procedure, but the basics are:

- get the engine up to operating temperature and then shut it off
- quickly remove the valve cover gasket
- with a non-marking stick (wood etc) press down on each lifter in turn
- they should only depress 0.1mm (0.004 inches) with normal hand pressure
