Title: Clutch kit selection ???
Post by: JetPo on April 28, 2009, 12:51:27 pm
Hey, i know this question was probably already asked but i cant seem to find a good answer. I have an 98 TDI with tranny in my mk2. I need to get a new clutch kit to andle the power of my moter. Im aiming for 180-200hp with VNT, injectors and 11mm pomp. So what compagnie ? kit ? would you recommend ?

Need your input.

Thanks
Alex

Seems good, but some people say that a lightend flywheel is not good for a TDI engine, is that true ?

I would not got with stock VR6 clutch or the lightened flywheel.  I have one in my MK2 with a modded TDI its not holding up at all.  Thats with snudded snow tire that don't hook up at all.

So I would skip this step and go with something stronger.  I'm going to use a south bend stage 2 or 3.  They seem to be very good quality and are priced pretty good too.

What are you pushing for HP / Tq?  I would think this setup would be good to at least  200hp.  It says it is rated for up to 300ftlbs of tq.

I haven't dynoed it yet, its snotty though.  :D   With a gas engine, it'll hold 300lb/ft+ no probem, the torque hits so early in a TDI it just can't hold it.  On paper it seems like it'll hold but you have to over clutch compared to a gas engine.
Its fine for really modded cars but anything with a larger turbo, nozzles, etc will overwhelm it.
