What turbo is Recommended if i am going to upgrade for more power?
-
I have seen posters on here use the k24 or the t3 off of the 1.6td setup. You could also go the vnt route with a 15 or a 17a or 17b.
-
depends what you want out of it.
if more overall power(boost) is what you want, then a k24 or T3 would be good, but they take longer to spool, so the added power will be only in the top end.
if you want more usable power(lower in the RPM range) then a VNT or K03 might be what you are after(although the K03 wont boost as high happily)
-
My opinion... there's a ton of things to do for power before your turbo becomes the limiting factor, so my vote is "the one you already have" !!

Vincent Waldon:
What things? :) at the moment i have 2 bar boost and the pump sett to match. next step is to mod the pump to deliver more diesel. My m8 how has done this on his Vento/jetta got 134hp at 2.5bar of boost.
I`d like to get more power :P
I want power that works well on the track so the k24-t3 sounds good

mod the pump to deliver more diesel
;-)
Intercooler is a really important next step as well, as is a big exhaust.
The K03 or K14 you have is clearly capable of 2+ bar of boost, and it won't have the lag of something "bigger" like a K24 that gains you an additional .5 bar of boost *and* causes your reliability to become questionable, IMHO.
Before all of the above, of course, is the importance of a sensitive pre-turbo EGT probe and gauge.

My K03 hybrids have been popular. Message me if you're interested....
I've had customers using them on the track at 26 PSI, although we don't recommend much past 22 PSI on them...
Very little lag too!
Good luck regardless!

Sorry you need to explane what that is, my english is not that good :)
BleachedBora:
i will remember that when the time comes for a new turbo, if you ship to europe :)

I would turn the boost down 0.5 bar and the fueling accordingly,
fit an intercooler, a bigger exhaust and watch power go up about 20 hp...
If you want to keep on running the kind of boost you currently have, you'll need a different type of turbo. Most stock turbos (including yours!!) will not take 2 bar boost for very long. Besides, you'll warp your head and crack your pre-chambers.
Diesel-specific Holset HX25 / HX30, Schwitzer S1 series are a good bet, but even some GT-series Garretts are just fine if you can find one with the right compressor/turbine size ratio.
A well chosen turbo with a good intercooler and exhaust should give you the same power you have now with no more than 1 bar of boost, maybe less.
And about that EGT gauge: It's Exhaust Gas Temperature meter.
You absolutely must have one before you tune your TD engine...
Install the probe before the turbo (to your exhaust manifold) and you'll know what's happening. This will allow you to find the right max. noost level for your engine setup, and then adjust fuelling just right.
That way you'll make power, not just smoke or melted turbos ;)
Good luck with the car mate!

On what kind of cars do i find a k24 and t3 turbo that can be used on my engine? i have been tould that a k24 fits if i grind out a littlebit on the intake manifold, what about the t3?

In he states they came both came on the 1.6td. Golf, jetta ,etc.
Not sure about overseas. You could do a search by the turbo number and see what vehicles it came stock on.
