I have a 1.9td with the pump with the adjustable pump pulley and I can't get it timed right.  I will run through the process:  flywheel and cam TDC, insert dial indicator with 2.5mm preload on small gauge on big gauge.  rotate engine counterclockwise until gauge stops.  zero gauge.  rotate engine forwards to TDC, check reading, loosen 3 bolts on adjustable pump pulley and rotate pump shaft to .95-1.05mm, try to start and nothing.  i am doing something wrong with the gauge and i don't know what, someone surely knows what i am messing up?  thanks for your help.

p.s. will it mess with my pump to remove the cruise control?

When you are turning the pump shaft, are you rotating it clockwise or anti-clockwise?

I believe you should be going anti-clockwise.

If you are doing that, when you rotate the engine in the direction of rotation back to TDC, what does the gauge read?

Cruise control is hooked up to the accelerator pedal inside the car. I don't there is anything on the pump related to cruise.

there is all kinds of stuff hooked up to the pump that involves cruise control, i am talking about physically taking it off the pump, i am worried that it may be connected to something important internally to the pump that will alter the normal pump functions, should i just leave it alone?  thanks tyler for helping my retardedness.  i have called Giles and tried to talk to him about the problems but I think he is too smart and my brain is too small!

Pretty sure Tyler is right here... the cruise control is vacuum-actuated using a diaphragm canister located up under the pedal cluster.

Perhaps you can post a picture or two of the stuff you're talking about and we can be of a bit more help.

I am saying that I will not be using the cruise control and that will removing the components on the pump affect anything?  Picture:

Yup. standard AAZ pump, and none of the switches, dashpots, etc are related to the cruise control.

You can safely delete everything except the black vaccum actuator on the upper right of the picture... assuming everything is connected and working that's your fast idle for when the engine is cold and or the A/C is on.

The "how to make your 1.9 faster" thread in the FAQ explains deleting the throttle microswitch and additional fuel solenoid a bit.
