So I have 2 options.
I have a 94 1.8 CL with minor body panel rust.
I want to swap in the rebuilt AAZ and get the bodywork done and painted.
OR
I have a 97 GL (the parts car^^^). Bunch of rust on the body with floor panels rusted out and rusted out fuel hatch. Immaculate roof with working sunroof. Plus it has AC.
Should I keep this car and rebuild the engine and cut and weld all the rust.
Basically is it worth doing the swap or fixing the parts car?

Don't you all have a type of emission test up there similar if not worse than we do. The 1.8 CL is a gas car isn't, im not sure on the gas model names but do you have a way of getting around the engine switch as it's gonna really cause some crazy readings on the sniffometer as we call it here. Other than that I think it's always better to use a better body as long as it's not an electrical nightmare but these diesels aren't in that category at all

easy work, repair the GL.I did the 1.8CL to Diesel, it would of been easier for me to buy a better shaped diesel and repair it, instead of doing the swap.

Depends on how much rot there is. Floors aren't so bad, it's the rockers and frame horns that are important. Just think which one you would feel safer in if you got in a big accident. A sunroof won't help you in that case , in fact it may make it worse.

Yea I know the extra features dont really count... and it all comes down to the structural integrity of the frame...

I couldn't get the floor pans to come up. I would buy the drivers side right now...Iam going outside to make my own out of sheet metal :x

My thoughts exactly.... can you legally swap the engines there ? We can here because in 1981 they sold the diesel there too, so it is allowed. Today they allow us to swap in family - the Jeep Grand Chrokee diesel means my Jeep wrangler can also get this engine even though a Wrangler Diesel has never been sold here...

Depends on your location. Michigan has never had testing, southeastern michigan in 3 counties had it for a number of years, but that ended about 10 years back. We still have to follow the rules, but there are no tests here.

im pretty sure in Ontario they still do..... i really don't know.
wouldn't it then be just as easy as having it tested as a diesel? lol I'm just being stupid.. spare some mercy for my idiocy :P

Diesels do have to pass emissions here, but as long as it doesn't smoke at idle it passes. Big question is can you have it tested as a diesel when the vin number of the car will tell them it's a gasser. Check with the local license office (MTO) and see what they say. Let us know what you find out. I've been thinking good older gasser bodies are easior to find than diesels here, sort of looking for something small (mk1 jetta 2 door, scirocco, mk2 2door golf, etc) to drop a warmed over AAZ into.
