Is there any special trick or anything to measure or count turns or the like when removing the governor shaft when dissasembling a pump. I did read in one of the threads about the clock position on the shaft having to be at a certain position for a hole to match up with something but I am wondering about how far to wind it in. or do you measure something on the inside for clearance first before you remove it?

Like many things in life the rule is simple: put it back where you found it
There's a couple of ways to do this... measuring the protrusion with a mike or count exposed threads are the two common ones.
One other hint: it has left-hand threads.

Ha Ha, yes I found that out on this old one, it has one of those rings with notches cut in it and it took about a half hour till I found that. Thank God the T/D has a regular style lock nut on it.
