Post by: okron1k on March 27, 2009, 01:45:54 pm
i need to change my alternator belt and i see that it is going to require me to take off the belt in front of it to get it off. can anyone post a step by step with maybe some pictures of which bolts i'll need to loosen?

the tensioner for the ac compressr is under the alternator. Take the alternator off, loosen the 2 hex bolts than hold on the compressor, dont take them out just loosen them. push the compressor down untill theres slack on the ac belt. Remove the ac belt then take off the alternator belt.

if you dont have AC the bolts to loosen are on the power steering pump bracket. All accessible from under the car without jacking it up.
However, there is the part of the bracket that swivles up and down that i like to loosen to make things easier and it is easy to get at from through the hood. The other bolt is under the alternator. Kinda tricky to get at until you know where it is. its a nut on a bolt so you need to turn both at once (or hold 1 still)

22mm socket and 13mm socket. Mind the live alternator terminal unless you like bonfires.   did I miss the 17mm socket?  It actually works quite well when you get the hang of it. Make sure that the 13mm isn't too loose before you adjust the 22mm to tension the belt. :?
