so here is the link
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Volkswagen_Group_diesel_engines
they don't have any idi engines listed except for the aaz but they say its an early tdi. alot of things don't make sense on it
-
I do believe that is because the link you posted is for Vw diesel engines still in production. If you look at this link;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_discontinued_Volkswagen_Group_diesel_engines
Its a link to discontinued diesel engines, you see there is the 1.5 and 1.6 listed. :) hope this clears that up?

I'm bummed that the article seems so North America-centric. No mention at all of the really awesome 1200, 1300 and 1400cc diesel crossflow IDI engines that were apparently available in Eurospec early Rabbits and Polos.

that's what happens when you have a bunch of under knowledged people editing a website :P
-
The downside of Wiki can also be a positive because you can go in and add the information that is missing.

I know at least the 1200 and 1400 crossflow diesels existed, from reading an offsite Polo build thread that was linked here.
