Post by: smoken u on March 23, 2009, 06:28:27 pm
hi all, havent been on here for a while, life has been very busy as of late, but i am starting to finally get some progress going on my vw build up  :D  im looking to balance my pistons in the very near future ( i still have to clean then and what not and i havent weighed them yet) now ive never balanced pistons before and am not really sure where to grind the weight off from, i am assuming the inside of the crown but am not sure any help or advice would be greatly appreciated :) thanks

When I worked at Federal Mogul's research lab, the testing showed the lower skirts were under the least stress.

So, I never remove material from the crown nor wrist pin bosses, but from the lowest part of the skirt.

ok so the lower part of the skirt would be the best place to remove the wight from, adn no i havent weighed them yet, probably get around to dojing that on the weekeend if all goes well :), and at the same time i'll weight the connecting rods to see how much they can be balanced up as well.
