Title: My new Golf GTD - jingling noise
Post by: ronnie85 on March 10, 2009, 06:33:11 am
heres my new GTD! I love it, very economical and surprisingly nippy. I want to do some tuning but first sort the problems and give it a good service.

firstly Ive got a jingling sound coming from the engine that has appeared since owning it. So thats the first to sort!!   but does anyone know what it mite be. It mainly happens on tick over it sounds like a small peice of metal is loose and vibrating or rotating against something (not a heavy mechanical banging or anything. Does anyone know what it mite be?

some photos...

Check your timing belt cover backing plate, the big metal bit, mine was slightly buckled from a bodged timing job, it was just catching on the top pulley.

Also check for loose clips/ fasteners and the throttle bracket on the injection pump, and keep an eye out for anything that looks like a silver powder, which could be pointing to interference with one of your pulleys.

Welcome to the site by the way  :D

thanks for the welcome guys!

thanks I will check... the noise sounds like its near the cylinder head. But its one of those noises that is hard to locate where its coming from. But sounds like it could be near the timing belt area so will check that. I just hope its not inside the engine!!

it could also be the 10mm bolts that holdthe timing belt backing plate onto the head.

Where abouts in sunny britain are you Ronnie?
