Title: Stock Muffler & Cat Question
Post by: Incognito on March 01, 2009, 11:36:33 pm
Hey all, i've been jumping around on different TDI forums about the stock mufflers and cats and how some guys have deleted them and gained a claimed 3-5mpg. Has anyone around here deleted their cat and/or muffler? Is there mainly a mpg increase or can be expect a lil' power boost as well? I've seen on Parleys Diesel they have Aero muffler thats supposed to me the cats meow, comments? Any prof these do anything? Help me out guys.. and thanks again

I just put a TDIParts complete 2.5'' SS exhaust, with a MagnaFlow cat and straight pipe back, no muffler. I swear it's not loud @ all. It sounds "authoritative"; no resonance @ certain rpms like some setups and I can hear that sweeeeet whistle of the turbo now. Only @ full, open throttle does it approach anything that might be considered ''noisy''. No mpg stats yet; I'm having too much fun this tank!

An update; I filled 1 tank full & 2 half tanks filled. 2 were @ 44mpg and the other was 43. I call it an slight increase. The cat was definitely clogged; it could be just that. It's all good though.

It will remove restriction in the exhaust gas flow.  It should allow for a more efficiant flow, but I am not sure how that will work with the ecu, if it will take advantage of the better flow.
