Title: coldstart lever position
Post by: dillenger1 on February 22, 2009, 09:13:47 am
What kind of position do you guys see on your lever when pulled?mines completely vertical right now, when its not pulled it about 1/2 way to the horizontal position, this is with full travel.but if you loosen it it will fall all the way horizontal with the pump.I was just wondering if i have correct position.I can hear a difference in timing but not much.

The best way to tell if it is going full travel without unhooking it is to put your finger on the lever and have someone move the knob in and out slowly a few times and see if you can fee it click in position each way.

I dont know where the full travel is susspose to start  though, because its not the full sweep of the cable.

you need to do some adjusting.

There is two positions where it clicks in two.. One when you pull it out, and one when its all the way in. Hmm.. Can you tell if it is clicking in to its off position where the handle would be pushed in to the dash? It has a pretty strong spring so you should feel it click in to place if it does..

There is a very small screw in the stupidest place behind the pump to adjust the cable.. Kind of like brakes on a bicycle, same procedure. Not sure if this is helping any but hey :) I tried

is this car factory diesel?

That is weird that the cable wouldn't allow full movement of the lever. But you have found the two positions, that is good. Hmm.. how much slack do you have in the cable for adjustment? like the part that sticks through the lever where it is screwed down to (again like the bicycle brakes)?

How did you come to figure out this was a problem?

There are a few styles of cold start levers used on the 1.6. You'll need to post a picture  or pump number

Its just the single armed lever.it doesnt have the spring/rod assembly.Im using the factory cold start advance cable.(Ive pulled otheres)and they have the same travel as this one.So im wondering if your coldstart position makes the lever vertical to the engine.
