Title: GL4-GL5
Post by: Rabbit TD on February 22, 2009, 12:15:59 am
I'm reading again about the gear oil for the o20 transmissions requiring the GL4 only oil and again I got the Amsoil MTG 75-90 GL4 as it worked fine in the last one I rebuilt, better have damn good seals in it though especialy the input shaft one and the axel flange seals.  My question is that all the information I read everywhere on all forums say the GL5 is bad for all things brass especially the synchronizers rings.  I've never seen a synchronizer anywhere that didn't have a brass ring so what is GL5 supposed to be used for anyway.  Are there synchronizers that aren't made with brass rings and what are they actually made of  :?:

The vw trans has brass syncros.

Why are you super concerned about using gl5 in your trans if you're already using gl4 without issue?
