Title: 1.6L T3 JX Engine- Looking for air filter without success.
Post by: CdnVWJunkie on February 21, 2009, 01:37:12 pm
I have truck with the 1.6L JX TD engine, factory.  I've looked with no success for a north american OE replacement.  Anyone know?  The number I have is an older Fram number and according to my suppliers unable to cross reference.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would really try to find a distributor that has OEM filters,  like Mann, most after market ones will be crap. Call a couple of parts suppliers and ask if they have a distributor by the name of Auto-Camping [head office is in Toronto] They should be able to get them.

I have them on the shelf and I can mail some accross if needed, otherwise K&N do a replacement cartridge.

Baldwyn PA 2792, WIX 46415. NAPA has their version of the WIX, can't
remember what their # is but from the other two they'll know.

I had a JX in my syncro westy for 5 years/100 000km and I kept that
setup when I installed the TDI, almost 2 years/50 000km. Never had
trouble finding filters with those numbers, even when travelling in the US.

If you have the large cylindrical canister like I have in my 85 Transporter single cab (with a factory installed 1.6L TD), the MANN # is C13114/4, the NAPA # is FIL6415.  The MANN filter I removed looked better built and felt slightly heavier than the NAPA replacement but the NAPA filter seem to work fine.

I second Andrew, the NAPA/WIX doesn't look as good as the MANN.
My second favorite is the Baldwyn for sure.

A friend told me John Deere filters are MANN. I will investigate...sure would
be nice to have a source for the MANN filter for our application.
