Title: 1.9TD not starting.
Post by: AndrewSE on February 18, 2009, 01:33:34 pm
So my Jetta 1.9 TD is currently dead in the water here at work.

Starter seems fine as it cranks well.

Battery is just a few months old.

Thinking glows plugs ?

If it's been gradually getting harder to start (and the temperatures have more or less bee the same) there's a whole bunch of things it might be: glow plugs, fuel filter, timing drifting.

If it's been starting really well and just this one time suddenly won't start I instantly suspect the glow plug fuse... on some AAZs it's bolted to the firewall, on some it's a big pink sucker at the top of the fuse panel, and on some (including mine) it's both.

If you have booster cables you can try a temporary bypass: use one cable to bridge from the positive battery terminal to one of the glow plugs for 30 seconds and then start the engine.

other then the few days of -20 or less it has started fine.

A day or two ago it seemed to take a tad longer to start.

Then today ..nothing.

I'll look for a fuse add try what you suggested.

thank you.

Thankz for the help on this again !

The wire trick did the job and I was able to get the car to start.

Looks like I'll be hunting for that fuse this weekend !

cheers,

Andrew
