Hello folks,
Im sorry if this has been covered a lot before but there are just a few questions ocncerning it that i cant find answers to?
As far as im aware vw's and my peugeot share a simialr pump so i can carry out the governor mod.
Here are my questions;
How do i remove the top after ive undone the 4 allen headed bolts and throttle arm?
What do i shim the springs with? Does it need to be hardened steel or will any grade steel do?
Do i shim the main spring to take up slack or completely remove it and insert something solid?
What do i do to the intermediate spring? If anything?
Again sorry if this is repeating previous threads but with such a mod i want to be sure i know what im doing.

So which spring? some posts say the intermediate (middle) other say the main, others yet say both. little confusing...

just go with the main spring. messing with the idle/intermediate springs will probably give you lots of grief.

Thanks jtanguay its nice to get a definitive answer as there are a lot of conflicting views it seems.
PS What do i shim it with?
Any washers i can find or do they have to be hardened steel or anything in particular?

No hardened washers. I used some #8 stainless at work I believe, but that is just because I had them. I went about 1/4" worth and the benefit is more fuel at higher RPM...= higher RPM in general.

Is the process of adding washers to increase the spring tension therefore making it harder for it to compress and thus retaining full fuelling for longer?
If so does it matter where i place washers aslong as i am squashing the main spring?
Reason i ask is that i took the small washers originally on a spare governor arm i have and added them between the circlip and spring mount instead of between the spring mount and spring.
It had the same effect but i did it this way cos i had no washers to fit between spring and mount.

Yes I think you have it there. If what I have read is correct the governor starts to cut fuel at 2,000 or so RPM. Then it fuels no more after about 5,000 RPM. Meaning you will have no more power for the rest of the RPM you run. I know it sounds completely different at high RPM after the gov. mod. I think you will like it.
