How much HP:s is got from a car diesel engine.
Here in Finland one Mercedes W124 300 24V Turbodiesel has over 500 crank HP. VW Caddy 1,6TD (Rabbit pickup) had 240 wheel HP without propane injection, now with propane. Also lots of 1,9 TDI:s over 200 hp and Mercedes 300 Turbodiesels over 400 hp etc.
Found this topic from french section. (http://www.vwdiesel.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=1614) These two mercedes are about an hour drive from me. That 426 wheel hp dyno slip is from that black Mercedes 190

Could you translate the modifications the MB 190 got in order to get 426 hp and 564 lb-ft of torque?

Custom exhaust manifold, Holset HX40, huge exhaust pipe, big intercooler and pump with special 7mm elements (stock 5mm). These pumps are made by Mynä Diesel in Mynämäki Finland.
Some of those 400+hp Mercedes engines are internally stock, never even opened
-
Holset HX40 is a turbo right?
Are 7mm elements are the plugers?

Right, a turbo made by the holset division of cummins engine company. The HX40 is the stock turbo on some cummins 5.9l and 8.3l diesels, probably with different wheel trims and housings.
Are 7mm elements are the plugers?
Yes, but there is one for each cylinder. The mercedes uses an inline pump rather than the single plunger rotary that VW uses.

Like in the 98-2003 (or so) cummins, right QuickTD? :?:

Saw the Caddy owner yesterday. He had dynoed it again: 254hp and 513nm (47psi boost) at the wheels without propane. He had tried it but power had gone down.

How was the smoke? Would nitrous oxide (N20) do a better job than propane if he still can overfuel? What is the TD's max RPM? Anyway these figures are impressive. Do you know anything about his dyno; can you please ask him for a copy of his dyno plot?

It smokes a lot. He had tried nitrous too, with same results. Had tried water injection too. It increase power, but it breaks the head gasket. Max RPM? Maybe 7000, if you run it freely. He ownes the dyno he uses. My Audi is dynoed there also (99 whp at the time) It is calibrated by Bosch.
That Caddy is ugly as h*ll. It`s stock exept 3" exhaust. Looks like it has never washed and even roof is rusted thru  It`s a sleeper, nobody knows...

Interesting. A couple questions:
1) Has the block internals been upgraded to handle the power / 47 PSI boost?
2) What type of headgasket and head bolts/studs does he have?
Thanks,
Mark

1. At least it has H-beam steel rods and reinforced main caps with stronger bolts. Don`t know if there is anything else. He told me that stock rods would break at 400nm, tried that too.
2. AAZ metal gasket, it lowers compression a little too. I think he made his own studs.

Audi80, I just sent you a PM (private message) regarding the H-beam rods.
