Title: Weird vibrations through the throttle pedal
Post by: LoneWolf on January 24, 2009, 06:29:05 pm
if i hold constant with the throttle pedal, it vibrates like crazy, but if i plant my foot it goes smooth.

all the bolts are tight on the pump, so i know its not rotating at all

has anyone experienced this, and if so, did you find the cause?

 thanks guys,

       Matt

bizzare.... It's almost always been a loose pump. Check the timing perhaps?
Maybe look for air in the fuel lines?
does it idle ok?

Are your wheels balanced properly?
Does your car drive straight with you let go of the wheel?

wheels are all fine, no hands on the wheel its as straight as ever, there doesnt appear to be any bubbles in the fuel lines.

idles a tad rough, but its always done that, and the timing is spot on

im really confused and slightly concerned :?

meh i wouldn't be concerned. Old cars rattle?

Is it vibration through only the pedal or the whole car?

because think about what the pedal is connected to... the pump (and thats it) so if the pedal vibrates, the pump is vibrating...

Just think about how diesels work...

fuel in, compress, power stroke, exhaust, intake, compression, power, exhaust .... and so on.

No sparking that could be delayed only fuel injecting that could be delayed/off time....

Does it start really well?

Maybe your pump needs to be rebuilt. (the shaft might be flopping around in there)

and isn't it like 3am for you right now?

could be a loose cable?  does it do it at any RPM or just a certain range?

"and isn't it like 3am for you right now?"

 yes it was :?

i dont know about it being the pump, it did it with my old gtd engine, now its got the aaz and still does it

could it possibly be something to do with the front engine/gearbox mount do you think?

Is it just the pedal vibrating or is it the whole car?

I seem to remember that was because the pump was going. You're feeling the shaft moving sideways with every compression stroke. I'm saying for sure. you say it works okay with full throttle, how is it on the highway, does it seem to lack power/ Any air in the fuel line?

right, quick update: front mount collapsed today, smashed the radiator, snapped some cables and has caused me to fall out with the car again

the mounts in 2 pieces now, so i recon its been going for a while, and possibly the vibrations from the engine may have loostened the bolts a bit?

 i dont know.

im going to try and finish her tomorrow, see what i find. if its not worth repairing, ive got a tasty 1600 petrol jetta thats look great with a smoke trail...

If it's not worth repairing do solid engine mounts! do you have a welder?
