Title: K03 to a trapazoid manifold
Post by: the caveman on January 23, 2009, 06:26:53 am
So what's the way to mount a K03 up to a trapazoid exhaust manifold? adaptor plate or replace the exhaust side of the turbo to match the manifold?

Make yourself an adapter my friend..
Or, go to Ebay and get a new manifold. Can find them for $110-130 ish. Cast iron.

well it 's because i am thinking ahead to installing one on my vanagon. I already have the proper van/quantum exhaust manifold. I won't do it if i have to use a center outlet one ,because i would then have to modify the engine mount to fit. There must be suppliers that sell flanges to match each side ?

Nope on the vendor, sorry. Our old cars are all that uses that flange.

The ones I saw on E bay had either center or off to one side like the newer TDI ones did pre VNT.

See, i keep forgetting why i may not bother. If i install just a turbo and TD pump, and keep everything basically stock i will only have MAYBE 13 more hp and 7 more lbs of torque. With the pump i have now i am already close to that now. For all the trouble i might as well sell off all the extra parts i have and get a Giles superpump.

Get a Giles superpump for TD application, and enjoy it. Then, in the future if you decide that a fiesty little K03 is just what you need to haul that sweet but comparatively heavy, fully loaded vanagon up steep hills, you'll already be equipped to handle it.
Or install a small jet nitrous system and reference the LDA to it. Just for the odd highway multi-car passing situation. With third gear rubber. Or if you decide that you don't want to get your front wheels wet in that puddle in the middle of the intersection after the light turns green.

I'm pretty sure the k03 on the center-port k03 exhaust manifold clears the driver's side bracket without modification on the vanagon.

Andrew

Ahh well that would definitely change things

K03<K14<K24

[edit] In case I'm unclear, since I've noticed some people use those as arrows... The K03 is smaller than the K14 is smaller than the K24.

a little off topic but i have an AHU motor that im interested in potential turbo/manifold upgrades.  I have a K03 turbo with a triangle flange at the moment.  are there any drop in upgrades available to me?  I'd be most interested in a better manifold, the stock one is rather terrible.

Does anyone know if these eBay manifolds will work on an AAZ?
