Damn Tyler!!! What's the story?
-
Ummm..... you have (had) a gasser???!!!
hope everyone was ok.
-
this truley sucks. i wish there were less idiots on the road. (unless it was your fault then things happen). the laywer says im not suposed to say what i would do to the kid that hit my golf and my mom if i ever see em

This was my winter beater. The Golf (diesel) wasn't starting but it's going to have to now.
The other guy was at fault. I was east bound in the right lane, the other 2 left east bound lanes were stopped at the lights because they had no where to go. There was a 04 Nissan rogue West bound making a left. Both cars at the lights that were stopped waved him through so he took his chances. WAMO.
Then my car caught on fire. Luckily I keep a fire extinguisher in it so I put it out.
Right now I'm driving a 08 Pontiac G5. It's a piece of ***, don't ever buy one. The computer is telling me that I'm getting a lovely 11l/100kms on GM's new 2.2l Ecotech motor with the variable intake and valve timing. Good job GM.
No one was hurt, so that's all that matters. I'm just waiting for my low ball offer from the insurance company. At least I can buy the Jetta back. $125 and it's mine. The Recaros are worth a lot more then that...
-
At least you're ok, Tyler, and that's what matters the most.
A friend of mine managed very well with the insurance company. He got his GTD (his first one of many) smashed by a guy. The company didn't want to pay much, but through some negociation he was able to make the insurance pay for another GTD (bargain price) and a new bilstein rear shock absorber. After that, he just put all the good parts (including the engine) from his old car into the new car.
I don't know if that's posible to do there, but I'd give it a try. (His claim: I had a working car, and I DESERVE a working car).
-
It's always tough to get a fair payout, especially if you got a deal on the car. They ask what you paid when you first get insurance, then if you file a claim, they say they can't pay out more than you paid for the car. Up to that point they may negotiate somewhat. I had one claim where they offered me $10 less than I paid or $200 less than I paid if I kept the car. I wouldn't accept their first offer immediately if I felt they were low-balling.

Mk2 crumple zones start at the front bumper and end at the front of the rear seat..the rear zone starts at the rear bumper and ends at the dash board.
Glad you are ok.
-
crunch crunch. glad you're ok tyler.
-
See what happens when you drive a gasser, you traitor?
Just kidding, glad to hear you're alright! Good luck with the insurance fight to come!
-
If that was CIS-E, I might be interested in the two fuel pressure regulators.
-
gotta love when you hear "he waved me on"
i still remember a story here where a worker waved on an elderly couple (in their car) from road construction. so they proceeded, and were struck by a train.
moral of the story - TRUST NO ONE! and proceed at your own risk
glad your ok Tyler. the insurance company will try to give you the lowest settlement they can. even more so than normal in this economy...
-
Is "WAMO" an acronym for "What A Moron, Obviously!"?
11L/100km !!!!!!! :o What great mileage! I love the car commercials advertising like ... 26 and 30 mpg (hwy) as like break through technology.
There are some gassers however that get somewhat decent econ. I just love the stupid ones last year about like 20-30 mpg being incredible.
-
OW!!
I am glad you are OK. As sad as it is to see an MkII Jetta meet it its doom (even if it is a gasser), there is a positive I think. Those pics are a testament that for a 20+ year old design they are well built. Add to the fact that rust and vibration weaken welds and joints. It held up pretty well.
-
i hate being in a wreck, coz i been in a few of them.
glad to hear you are doing OK.
-
Glad you're ok. I've seen a lot in my 26 years in the fire service.
And ANOTHER beer for you for your fire safety lesson. Not many people carry extinguishers. Smart move.
While you are waiting for the Ins. Co., if ya need to practice repairs, I have my 89 for ya to practice on :).
-
you sure are wrecking a lot of VW's latley Tyler!
you need me to send you up a fleet of cars?

hmmmm 4k in tickets? damn those bastards.

The Recaros are worth a lot more then that...
And then there's the Canadian Tire battery that appears to have survived... that *alone* is worth the settlement !! ;-)
-
Thanks for the kind words guys. I finished the car off last night. Gutted the interior and yanked the motor after work. It only took 2.5 hours... you'd think I've done this once or twice before.
Hopefully everything goes as planned and I'll be back in my Diesel Golf tomorrow. It needs lots of work still, like an exhaust but at least it will get me to work and back for now.
If that was CIS-E, I might be interested in the two fuel pressure regulators.
Sorry just CIS

You speak the truth. This is the second time this has happened to me.
They offered me $1200. I'm countering with 3000. They did let me buy my car back for $100 though.

I know, I laugh a little inside at those fools. No matter how hard I drive my diesel I'll always get better mileage then I did in this 2008 car...

I agree. I am very happy that I don`t have air bags. His went off along the side, not the front ones. That car was actually almost rust free. Only 1 spot half the size of a penny under the rear window seal :(
And ANOTHER beer for you for your fire safety lesson. Not many people carry extinguishers. Smart move.
Thanks. I bought it hoping I would never have to use it. I actually couldn`t figure the stupid thing out. I pulled the pin and tried to squeeze it but I broke the handle off. I managed somehow though.

If you have any 4 door german rabbits... :D
Good luck in court buddy.

Actually the headlight pierced it. I was hoping I could save it
