Title: Hello - i'm back! :)
Post by: MontanaGTD on January 11, 2009, 07:04:09 am
After being away from the GTD since August I thought i'd come back and fill you in on what i've been upto!

My daily was a Mk2 Golf GTD (1991 J reg - SB engine code) in rare Montana Green (only 5 left in the UK!) I was going to put the car into a local bodyshop to get it a full respray, but when the time came I couldnt justify spending over £800 on it. So I bought another car ( a mk4 Polo 16v 16v with a brand new engine and A/c for £1200) so the GTD was put into storage at my parents house and left there for the MOT to expire and the Road tax to run out. I've since bought another car (a Skoda Fabia VRS - PD130!) and now its time for me to move the GTd on! :( Much as it saddens me to let it go - it just passed an MOT on the 5th of January. Its d/s rear seam is just starting to split (below the tail light) - and a couple of small areas in the boot floor were one of the seams ends. but other than that its a brilliant car! loads of mods and work done!

Here are a few pics!

MK2 GTD:-

If anyone is interested in buying the GTD from me then i'm after about £1200 with the mirror polished 3 Spokes on it - or £900 on the G60 steels - or £700 bring your own wheels to take it away. It has a full 12 Month MOT, but no Tax

Hey Montana, i was wondering and searching for some sites over the pond with a good selection of VW diesels, in particular polos and lupos. Before the law changes here, i may be interested in bringing over one of those smaller TDI's .

Law change ? Is Canada going to follow the anti-diesel EPA in blocking the best MPG cars on the planet from coming here ?

No, the law i mean is the one where you can bring a vehicle into Canada as long as it is more than 15 years old[ unlike the 25 years in the US]. Other than some small upgrades [daytime running lights, third brake light, safety inspection] it's no problemo.

I would highly recommend a Polo 6n2 1.4 TDi - you can get them over here for about £1000 - 75bhp, but easily remapped to about 105bhp. Plus about 56mpg is average!

The bonnet was a spare one I had lying around that I sanded and left to rust!
original bonnet is back on it and wheels are back to the originals as my wife is using it to learn to drive with!

So you wanted it to rust on purpose???  I guess I don't get it....   :?

so Montana,
what are you gonna use those head lights on that i sent ya if your gonna get rid of the GTD?
your polo looks kewl! i wish we got them over here!
also some day i got a project down the road! i want to do is get all the items from a right hand drive caddy to convert one of mine over from left to right hand drive!
like dash, peddles, brake crossover bar!  their prolly more thats required ?
what do ya think? you  can get the parts cheap enough so it wont cost me as much as a new car?

I've already sold on the headlights! I got £90 for each pair! ;)

If you need some parts I should be able to sort out a few bits and pieces:-

Dash, rack, pedals, Uk lights, bumpers, wipers - By the time you ship all these over it would be cheaper to ship over a whole car! ;)

I think all i need to get is the dash, brake relay bar that runs along the fire wall! and the connecting parts from that bar that goes to the power booster and the connection to the pedals clutch cable, maybe throttle cable! and i think the pedal assembly? i'm not sure if they are the same as left hand vehicles? do you know if the fuse box is still mounted on the left side on a right hand vehicle or is that mounted on the right side as well? i'm pretty sure i could get away with just the basic of items to get me placed on the right side? I think i can just flip my steering rack?
I'll have to look at some pics. from the caddy forum and make a list compare parts!
