Title: Blkboostedtruck's '66 type III turbo diesel squareback build
Post by: blkboostedtruck on January 10, 2009, 10:41:40 pm
Well i'm gonna be starting my build soon ! i have the adapter plate on order!
should be here in a week or so? but here's a pic. of my old variant i have owned it since '86 ! i really haven't driven this car much since graduating  high school in '87! been sitting in the garage that long except for a few car shows! but i think this would be so much funner with a turbo diesel motor!
well i'm gonna try and document my build as i go! so stay tuned!

Where are you gonna hide the rad?!

thank's Vince,
yes a kennedy adapter plate! i'm gonna try and make it totally look like a water cooled motor is not noticeable by the out side! i'm gonna try and put the radiators in behind the rear fenders air intake duct ! one radiator on each side with slim fans to pull the air! thats my idea so far!

You may have to do like they did for the Bugatti Veryon and have 10 radiators all over the car. Seriously you other possible option is to mount one where some people put the oil cooler on them- above the transmission with a fan and thermostat. Don't know if there's enough room on a type 3 though.Or get the front valance from a super beetle and graft it under the front bumper and mount a rad there.

how many other people do you know still have their first car?
i still do! after all these years!
Duane

P.S. i bought a multi process AC/DC tig/stick welder last nite! it's capable of tig welding aluminum! so now i will be able to make up custom radiators for
the project! i can't wait to start playing with it! looks like this one!  (http://www.brwelder.com/images/MILLER%20ECONOTIG%20PKG%20(%20MED).jpg)

well if anybody wants to buy my other old welders they can?
here's a pic. of one!(http://www.brwelder.com/images/miller%20cst%20280%20(med).jpg)
this one can tig and stick stainless and steel it is the most powerfull and compact welder on the market! 100* duty cycle retails for nearly $2000 bucks! i'm gonna list it on C.L. for $1,200 but anybody here on the forum can have it for $1,000 bucks!

my other older AC/DC miller stick welder is older then the one in the pic
but looks and welds great! i used it a lot for welding cast  iron! $450 bucks (http://www.brwelder.com/shop/Images/ACFC69.jpg)

Back in the day we used Kennedy adapters to cram Corvair engines into the back of Beetles... they made sweet stuff then and they still make it today.

Looks like a fun project Duane.
