They kind of look like TDI's to me.... but missing the turbos. Hmmm? There's two of them, but I'm not quite sure what they are (having mostly seen old 1.6's...)
Thanks

That looks ike a 1.9 TDI to me....
-
looks pretty clean, you should be able to pull an engine code and find out, right?
-
Yep, TDI. Looks like an AHU engine code the way the exhaust manifold is. Worked on one today. Not as clean though.

they look like tdis with out a turbo to me, looks like a turbo exhaust manifold on them
-
i agree its an AHU TDI. the injection pump doesn't have a mechanical throttle
-
Thanks...
So if they are AHU code TDI's, do they share the same mechanical connections (bolt pattern, flywheel, etc) as the older 1.6/1.8 engines? Just wondering if they'd be useable in an older car (if the electronic control can be worked out, that is....)

I'm 90% sure that the early TDIs are the same as the 1.6/1.8s.
In the event that you don't want to worry about electronics you can always have a mTDI pump built

If it's an AHU then the block is virtually identical to the 1.9 IDI block aside from the pistons. So yes, it can be tossed into a mk2 but you will need to deal with the electronics.
