Title: idle getting scary now
Post by: James8485 on January 06, 2009, 03:40:20 pm
well my idle has always been messed! like first start it it idles fine then it gets warm and it jumps like 200RPM sometimes it even hangs when i let off the gas. well i pull into my driveway today and idle just climbs by itself right up to 1600 and just sits there. i stall it down and it climbs right back up. i turned down my fuel screw a while back to bring it back but even know i turned it down and it was idleing where it should it only lasted a day before it was right back up to that high idle even know i turned fuel down  WTF......

now it climbing to 1600, could injectors be the prob.

i got a set coming from prothe 1.6/1.9 injectors with merc spec nozzles

pump was rebuilt along with motor

any help here!!!

oh off topic why would it be blowing air instead of sucking where my air re-circulation hose from that puck thing goes to my air intake.
take it off put your hand over turbo its sucking alright but when i put my tubing back on it blows out that hole!  i really need some help!

Uhhh, i think by puck you mean the blow off valve?
What engine do you have? always good to post. is it an eco? 1.6td? 1.9 aaz?

there is the idle screw and fuel screw... maybe turn the idle screw out? (its hard to get at with the injectors in so maybe when you swap em you can try that?) sorry i don't know much about injection pump demons.

yea first place to start would be idle screw, but the initial idle seems to be okay... possibly the residual fuel screw needs adjusting???

well the idle screw is as low as it will go,
its a AAZ 1.9

whats this resiadual screw/??

thats not that screw where the arm rest on is it, if it is why would that casuse the idle to be fine then just crawl up 600rpm?

anyways but my stock aaz boost pin back in as i had the 1.6 so maybe it was getting hung up? but for now less fuel is better i think

i appriciate all input, thanks

Which one is the residual fuel screw?

I read here somewhere that bad injectors will make the RPMs hang. I hope that's what  it is. My truck is doing the same thing. The pump settings have never been adjusted, and when warm at idle, it sits at about 900 RPMS. But when I pull up to a light and let off the gas, the RPMs will hang at about 1400  from anywhere between 5 sec to 3 minutes. Sometimes, it won't come down before I take off again.

I'm pretty sure my injectors are wasted becuase when the car first starts in the morning, the pump sounds like a can full of marbles, even though the timing is fairly retarded (.90mm).

Sounds like you have excessive crankcase pressure, i.e. piston blowby, if you feel pressure coming from the puck on the valve cover.  That will cause oil vapor to be blown into the engine, which the engine uses as fuel and will cause the rpms to climb.  If not taken care of very soon, the RPM's could skyrocket and climb out of control and you will not be able to shut the engine off.  A temporary fix is to pull the hose coming out of the puck to the intake tube and let it vent to atmosphere or a small catch can, that would at least prevent the runaway condition.

its the one that the throttle lever rests on at idle.

Do you have AC?

To me it doesn't sound like a setting on the pump, but I could definitly be wrong on that one.

With the engine running and the oil filler cap off does it puff out an oil mist?

How old is your air filter?

well i didnt say there was pressure coming from the puck thing i said there was air blowing out that hole on the air intake, not at all off the valve cover.....just to clear things up.

when you take oil cap off there is like next to no pressure there. like you can feel alittle but there is always a tinny bit there. my bro has a 1.6 TD which was rebuilt at the same time and its same as mine.

there should not be any blow by as its a new engine, 50000 k's on it
it does start fine as well in the cold

its almost like it starts to run away but it stops at 1500-1600 RPM
i dont know it weird. i am hoping to get those injectors this week
just a question: when i put the 1.6 injectors with the merc spec nozzles
in is my ilde going to be alot higher as the nozzle is bigger?

and any tip of changing them sucessfuly, anything to be carful of or dangers. and how long should this take  to do start to finish(ballpark)
i plan on just bending my lines as if there shorter that shouldnt be a big deal
