How can I tell what engine I have when the ID area of the block is pitted too bad to read? The engine is not in a car so I don't know what it was I . It is a 1.6TD from somewhere around 83?? What can I look at to tell?
Thanks

From the number on the pump it looks like it was from an 83-84 rabbit. I think the guy it was from also said it was a rabbit now that I think of it.

well im pretty sure the model of the car doesn't make a huge difference...
You want to know if its like MF or something?
I would clean the area with lacquer thinner where it's supposed to be printed and then put paper over it and with a black sharpie (the wedge kind) just lightly shade over it and you might be able to make it out that way?

Yes, that is what I am after. There is no way to read what was there, I wire brushed, scraped, and then used my small sandblaster to get the rust away and there is no hope of getting anything from there....

Sh!tty.... Hmmmmmm.
well you could start listing the parts on it? Hahaha
like the number off the injection pump, what turbo you have, and so on. Maybe post a pic too? There are a few guys on here who know VWs like the back of their hand.
