Title: turbo disassembly
Post by: truckinwagen on January 04, 2009, 02:34:18 pm
I am in the throws of a big rebuild and I need to get the turbo apart to clock it and clean it up.

the problem I am having is with getting the mid section to come loose from the hotside, the cold side came right off, but the hot side is on there really tight, I cant help buth think it is corroded pretty good and I have it soaking in PB Blaster, but still it wont budge.

any tips on how to free it up without destroying anything?

I've had to use heat a couple of times as well.

Andrew

I have done a couple of K14's and a K24 and heat is your friend.  I use my torch until is starts to smoke out of the joint between the hot and center section.  Usually comes easy then.

I didn't hit it with a hammer yet because I currently don't have a bench vise in the shop I have access to, but i will try heat and a hammer when I get it in a shop that has a vise.

its a K24 that I got for $50 so I am not too concerned, but I don't want to break anything I don't have to

thanks for all the help guys.
